Portland win makes Whitecaps chances slim

Tonight the Portland Timbers beat the Colorado Rapids. In the process they Jumped over the Rapids and the LA Galaxy into third place in the Western Conference of the MLS.   This means the Whitecaps are now six points behind the last playoff spot, which is for today held by the Galaxy.  Tomorrow’s must-win against Montreal has become even more crucial.  Can the Whitecaps deliver a win? Lets hope so, or our goose is cooked this year.

  1. I agree that things are getting very close to the bone for the Whitecaps. For me, the key is the Colorado Rapids. The ‘Caps sit seven points behind Colorado and, as well as having two games in hand on the Rapids, Vancouver plays them twice before the end the season. Win the games in hand and beat them in the face-to-faces and the ’Caps leave them in their wake. If that is not an opportunity, I don’t know what is. As for Dallas, If the Whitecaps collect three more points than Dallas in the remaining five games they finish ahead of them. At this point it is solely and simply about Martin Rennie and the players doing their jobs and about playing the games and playing them well enough to win. All will be revealed in the fullness of time but what will be revealed is still in the balance and is entirely in the hands of the side.
