No Henry or Marquez in tomorrow’s Whitecaps match

How disappointing.  The New York Red Bulls, one of Major League Soccer’s best sides is coming to play the Whitecaps without Henry or Marquez. I was looking forward to seeing Thierry Henry, one of the greatest players of recent world football, here in our own city.  Henry is a World Cup winner with France and won many honours as the top player in the English Premiership in his time there with Arsenal. A knee problem has put paid to his trip here.

I can’t help but think that if we had natural grass instead of fieldturf at Empire we might have seen Henry play.  I would put money on that being the reason he has not made the trip. Fieldturf is very hard on the body, and if I had a star who was marginal fitness wise, I would not take the risk on fieldturf.  All the more reason why the Vancouver Whitecaps must keep the goal of a soccer specific stadium with natural grass playing surface in mind.  Marquez is playing for Mexico tomorrow.

With these two out, we have lost the opportunity to see how our squad would cope with a side with serious quality.

Oh, well, at least it is still a football match, but a lesser one than it would have been had Henri and Marquez been playing.
