Carl Valentine doing a stellar job for the Vancouver Whitecaps

One of the great joys of the Vancouver Whitecaps inaugural Major League Soccer season has been the reconnection of one of the heroes of 1979, Carl Valentine, with the club.

Valentine has taken on a media role with the Whitecaps and has put together several excellent features recently.  We always knew and loved Carl Valentine the football man, but who knew he had such talent for reportage as well?  He has turned into the Whitecaps official correspondent extraordinaire.  His contribution to the Whitecaps website is among the best content to be found there.

Whitecaps Great Carl Valentine

Among his most recent contributions are an insightful interview with Omar Salgado’s mum, a wonderful piece on the 3-3 tie with Sporting Kansas City, and best yet, his visit to different supporters groups throughout Empire Stadium during the game with Chivas was nothing less than superb.

I must say, I have found his pieces to be both very interesting and very emotional.  Having one of the heroes of 1979 back active with the club is very satisfying indeed to those of us who remember those days.

We love you Carl.  Welcome back and keep up the good work!
