Whitecaps Turn Into Revolving DoorAugust 12, 2010 at 1:28 am | Posted in Whitecaps Season 2010 | Leave a comment
Watching the player comings and goings at the Whitecaps is enough to make your head spin these days. Out are Justin Moose, Marlon James, Ansou Toure, Johnny Steele and Ricardo Sanchez. In are Terry Dunfield, Kyle Porter, Alex Morfaw, Omar Salgado and Jonathan McDonald. The new aquisitions are mainly the work of Tom Soehn and his tireless scouting efforts.
Given the recent success of the Major League Soccer in its new franchises in Toronto, Seattle and Philadelphia, players will be very interested indeed to play for a new MLS franchise, especially one with the sky-high potential of the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The most exciting aquisition is young Omar Salgado, whom the Caps will be looking to make their first player acquisition for the MLS should his 3 month trial period go well. He has tremendous potential, and is reported to be attracting the attention of big clubs in different parts of the globe. Will the Whitecaps buck the trend and sign a young prodigy as a designated player rather than a fading star? Who knows? In Omar Salgado we may be able to witness the beginning of a fantastic football career just as we did with Peter Beardsley and Bruce Grobbelaar.
Given the rather boring season we have been suffering through this year, I am quite exited to see what these new players might do to inject a little bit of flair and excitement on the pitch for the rest of the season. The new players will be highly motivated to stand out, so we should see some fantastic efforts for the rest of the season.
