Odd Season for the Whitecaps So Far

Here we are, the Champions from the 2008 USL-1 league and we are in eighth place at the halfway point.  We lost another game 1-2, which seems to be out favourite score this year!    What is odd about our team is our leaky defence,  which I thought was going to be the strongest part of our team this year.

There I no doubt that our team has plummeted is in part because of the loss of Sebrango and Jeff Clarke, two players of great character, maturity and skill.  What we miss most about these two is their leadership ability.  We also miss seasoned veterans Kindel and Valente.  Now it seems like a big mistake to have let them go.  None of the new players seems to be taking up the challenge well, and our natural leaders, Charles and Gbeke fell out on the pitch, though hopefully they have kissed and made up.   Martin Nash looks a bit lost this year too, and does not seem to be able to figure it all out as team captain.

Then there was the frustration of the capitulation of Montreal in the Canadian Championship.

Perhaps we can turn it all around now that we have six home games starting next Saturday night against Puerto Rico.  They are a serious team, sharing the lead with Portland.

It is time for our players to give more for the jersey.  It is also time for Teitur and captain Nash to sort the team out so we don’t face the indignity of missing the playoffs.
