Gbeke Wins It: Whitecaps 1 PRI 0

In last year’s final it was Charles Gbeke who gave us the two goals necessary to win the USL-1 Championship.  Since then he has struggled, looking a bit out of sorts and not scoring.   He had fallen into a slump and has not looked like a happy man.  Tonight he attacked Wes Knight’s cross in the 83 minute with commitment and belief to head home the winner in the 83 minute.  It was great to see, and he was obviously a very relieved man after the game.

Unhappily for the Caps, one striker’s joy was another’s misery  as Marlon James was stretchered off. We shall have to wait and see if he aggravated his early season injury or whether this is something new.  Marcus Haber came in and gave a good account of himself.  He is adjusting well to the pace of the game and looks very composed.

Credit to Arze who worked like a dog all night.   Gordon Chin got some minutes towards the end of the game.  It was nice to see him back in the side and I hope we will get to see more of him.

It was great to see the Caps looking fit tonight after the midweek game in TO where they did not look fit.   Perhaps PRI was a bit tired tonight after one of those dreadful USL road trips.  PRI look like a good side, so it was a credit to the Caps to beat them.  Onwards and upwards!!!
