Portland Gets 18th Major League Soccer Franchise

Gosh, the Pacific Northwest has gone from  division 2 to Division 1 pretty quickly!  Last year we all competed together in United Soccer Leagues 1 and in two years time it is a case of “we’ll meet again” in 2011 in MLS.

This is as it should be as the Pacific Northwest has always been a footy hotbed, both for playing and watching.   In the old NASL days all three franchises were very healthy and well attended.  It was certainly not the Pac NW franchises which brought the whole thing down.

Portland certainly deserved a team.  They have great fans who are knowledgeable about footy and who support their team with a great passion.

I am looking forward to the road trips to see the Caps in action over the border.  Spending a day in beautiful Seattle before topping it all of with a fierce footy match will do just fine than you very much!

Portland is a bit far away, but this does not seem to stop hordes of Portland fans from making the trip for USL matches.  It will make for great atmosphere in the stadium!   The Caps may have to put a visiting support section in the stadium…
