Swanny Pitch torn up!!!

I was watching the 6 o’clock tonight and it seems as if the SFU football team played a game on the weekend and tore up the pitch at Swangard Stadium.  This is very bad news indeed.  It means that the spectacle will see on Friday will be poorer for the condition of the pitch, and also, it puts the Caps at risk against Minny.  A bad pitch tends to work as an equalizer, because generally superior teams gain an advantage from a good pitch.  This is  because they can pass the ball around well and exploit their superior skill over a lesser team.  Lesser teams like to play on  a bad pitch because it is easier to defend, and good teams get frustrated because they can’t move the ball in the way they would like.  A poor pitch means the game gets turned into a purely athletic contest, a battle of wills over skill.  I think this unfortunate development may favour Minnesota, and by the looks of their last appearance in Vancouver when they got a 0-0 draw, they just might be able to obtain the same result again on Friday.

This also illustrates the garbage that you have to put up with when you don’t have your own stadium!!!  C’mon politicians!!! Lets build Whitecaps Waterfront Stadium!
