Whitecaps 2 Toronto FC 2: Sebrango is King!!!

Well done Eddie, two goals, one of which saved our bacon.   We sent TFC packing 3-2 over 2 games.  This series proves that USL is close if not even with MLS.  The US Open Cup results and the Nutralite series demonstrate that USL teams can defeat MLS teams on any given night.  TFC came into the game whining about protecting their “flair” players but from what I saw they really don’t have any.  TFC were not a bad side but flair was missing, frankly.  Not that he would have helped on the flair side, it was a shame Danny Dichio did not make it here for the match, it would have been nice to see the legend who scored the first goal for TFC.

Jay Nolly played another blinder and we rode our luck a few times in the first half.   The Caps put in a great fighting effort and it was clear they were out to win it tonight.  It was probably the second best game of the season after our 3-1 thrashing of Portland.     Again, Addlery should have done better.  He was through clear to the left of goal and shot wide.  There is no excuse for a striker to miss the goal entirely like that.  We need a new striker.  Jordan came on and looked unfit.  It looks as thought the injuries are catching up with him.  I can only imagine he will be coming on as a sub from now on.

Thank heaven for Eddie Sebrango, who, at 35, still has the fitness and the skill to put goals in the net.  I love the guy and his work rate is that of a 25 year old.  Long may he run for the Whitecaps.

The crowd was loud and enthusiastic and really got into the game.  There was an edge there that the Toronto -Vancouver rivalry produces that is missing in many USL games.  This one really mattered and though we lost the tournament through complacency against Montreal, we showed TFC the door by beating them over 2 games!   A very satisfying experience!!!
