BC Place: Blessing or Disaster?

It is a blessing! Today it was announced that BC Place will be renovated and a new retractable roof added.  Furthermore, the Vancouver Whitecaps have said that they intend to lease the stadium and play games there.  I believe this is a good move and support it.  While our Waterfront stadium plans are stuck in the mud of Federal bureaucracy, the team needs to move forward in its goal to secure an MLS franchise.  The MLS has put a cap on the number of teams and there really are only 2 spots left.  We need one of those spots.  We want and deserve the highest level of play in the biggest league available.  Vancouver is a soccer town, and I can remember when soccer WAS the biggest game in town, bigger than the Canucks.  When Greg Kerfoot bought the Caps I sent him an e-mail and said that he should move the team to BC place and get the roof taken off.  That was just a fanciful bit of wishful thinking then….and now it is happening!

The Whitecaps need to continue to proceed with the original game plan: Whitecaps Waterfront Stadium with a beautiful grass pitch.  Until then, BC Place will do to get us into MLS.  I believe this is the beginning of something grand! All credit goes to the Caps for pushing the team in the right direction.
