Farewell to Tony Caig

Today the Whitecaps announced that Tony Caig is leaving the Whitecaps for personal reasons.  One can only speculate, but perhaps his family got homesick for Old Blighty.  It is tough to be away from extended family, aunts, uncles, grandparents etc. in a foreign land.  I don’t imagine the road trips across the vast distances of North America were pleasant in being away from his young kids.  I guess the good thing about playing in the UK is that you are always home by nightfall no matter where you are playing.

In any event I am grateful to Tony for being an integral part of the championship team.  His calm and confident presence was a great help to the team, and he certainly fulfilled his role in organizing his defence, which was as solid as a rock.   He is what I would call a solid bloke, not flashy, but quietly getting on with his job.  I never once saw him lose his cool.

Thanks for the championship Tony, we will miss you.  All the best in the future for you and your family.
