Yanks Blow It in Confederations Cup

I must say I feel a bit sorry for the Americans.  They were two -nil up at the half through brilliantly taken goals from Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan.  Sadly for them, the brazilian  juggernaught rolled over them eventually.

The yanks were the surprise of the tournament, starting very poorly with two losses to Brazil and Italy, only to get themselves back into the tournament with a 3-0 win over Egypt, which, along with Italy’s three nil loss to Brazil, saw them through to the semi-final.   There they beat Spain and sent shock waves through the football world.  They then had themselves poised for a great upset.  Sadly, they lost all concentration in the second half and conceded early on.  Their mistake was to concede the flanks to the Brazilians.  Kaka left Jonathan Spector for dead to cross in for the goal which tied it up, and Lucio, the veteran, headed in for the winner.  The Americans had some chances, notably Onyewu in injury time, but it was all for naught when he headed over.

Still, it was great to see the Americans, who have never on anything other than the Gold Cup, give the Brazilians a run for their money.  The more things change, the more they stay the same!  Ho, Hum, Brazil wins again.  I do not think they will win it all next year.  I don’t think Dunga is a very good coach.  I’m putting my money on Spain.
