1980 Revisited?

When the Whitecaps won their championship in 1979 they had a dismal year the following  year, and history looks like repeating itself in 2007 after the 2006 championship year.   In my view the poor performance this year has everything to do with the lack of quality off season signings.  Our team has grown complacent and is sitting on the laurels of its 2006 championship.  While we stutter and bumble along, Portland is on an absolute tear because of one thing: desire.  Sitting on last years line up is simply not enough to win again.  The Caps needed to make some better signings to shake the team up a bit and get some guys on the squad who have never won a championship before.  This years off season signings have been poor and none has pushed the regulars at all.  the result is complacency, and it will be difficult to do a repeat of last year.  If the form continues as it is at present, I doubt we will make the playoffs…
